Biography:
Bernard is currently a graduate research assistant at the Computer Vision and Robotics Lab (CVRL) at the Beckman Institute for Advanced Science and Technology, Urbana, IL. His Ph.D. candidacy is in the Electrical and Computer Engineering Department at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.
He is advised by Professor Narendra Ahuja, who heads CVRL. His work is concentrated on modeling dynamic texture from video for the purpose of non-trivial synthesis, recognition, compression, extraction, and activity recognition. This problem is new, practical, and very interesting.
Research Interests:
Bernard’s primary research interests are in computer vision including:
-
Modeling dynamic objects in video sequences (e.g. dynamic textures)
-
Developing/applying efficient optimization techniques for computer vision problems
-
Studying the perceptual effects of distortion on image quality
He is also interested in:
-
mobile robotics (i.e. mapping, visual obstacle avoidance, etc.)
-
RFID based applications especially applied to interdisciplinary fields
-
computer graphics
-
almost any interdisciplinary domain where technology can make a difference!!
